Heartburn
Heartburn is that burning sensation sometimes called acid stomach. It is often
the result of eating fast or eating when emotionally upset. Air is swallowed
during the meal and if not expelled it will expand when it is warmed and
pushes stomach acid into the esophagus. The acid irritates the esophageal
membranes and causes the pain. Antacids are no help for heartburn. These
antacids neutralize the acid in the stomach and do nothing for the acid in the
esophagus. Eat small meals and never eat when you are emotionally upset.
